Quiz night success

Winnie and I held our fundraising quiz last Thursday and what a success it was. Not only did we raise nearly £700 for our participation in Co-operation Ireland New England in the Fall cycling challenge, but it was also great craic.

More than 70 people participated in the quiz, which was won by ‘Cant believe it’s not semtex’. And us a peace-building charity!!!! We will have to do a bit more work on the ground! Anyway I have to give credit where credit is due – they were good. They even got “ If you suffer from cynophobia, what do you fear?’

Us mere mortals didn’t come close but everyone did enter into the spirit of the evening.

We also ran a raffle and I must say thanks to the Carmichael Group for their prize of a night in the Rosspark Hotel. Botanic Inns also came up trumps and donated a prize of a night’s bed and breakfast at Denvir’s hotel, Downpatrick. Sheldon Gallery also donated a great prize as did Co-operation Ireland supporter Frank Herron.

However prize of the night was the donation of two tickets to see Rod Stewart at the RDS on Sunday 5 July, kindly donated by Co-operation Ireland staffer Michelle McCluskey. The winner of the tickets Margaret, kindly allowed us to sell on the tickets for our fundraising efforts.  A friend of mine, Martina, who is the ultimate Rod Stewart fan, purchased the tickets for an undisclosed sum but it certainly added to our final total. I have yet to find out it went.

We combined the event with our colleague Tanya Ireland’s leaving do. Obviously taking every opportunity to give her a good send off. Tanya is going back to university to study art and design. I have no doubt we will hear about her work in the future.

Thanks to everyone who participated – your presence and support was much appreciated.

And if you didn’t know, cynophobia is the fear of dogs.
