Maracycle again?

Dublin and Belfast are gettin further apart - well they are if I get my way and reinstate the Belfast - Dublin Maracycle over the last weekend in June. Instead of incurring the wrath of Police forces, North and South by cycling on motorways, we'll be asking cyclists to take a more leisurely approach on rural country roads avoiding city centres and heavy traffic ( hope thats what you want ). We want people to enjoy the shared friendship and fun of the flagship cross border bike ride Maracycle which attracted 45, 000 participants over its previous 15 year history. I got out for a cold and slow 25 miles on Sunday morning, I have a fair bit of improvement ahead of me if my ambition to do take on three great bike rides can actually become reality in the year ahead.

In addition to Maracycle, there's two brilliant trips in September, one around the hills and loughs of counties Derry and Donegal with our friends from Marie Keating Foundation and Ulster Cancer Foundation and the other through the Italian lakes and a bit of Switzerland.

I've always had a fascination to visit Vietnam and might just get a chance to do so if I can get fit enough and raise the dosh to join our team for a trip there in February 2011. Back to Maracycle, we'll be doing all we can to attract first timers and experienced bikers alike with loads of options at keen prices. My original statement that Belfast and Dublin are getting further apart, guess the distance between the two capitals on our planned new route I look forward to talking to you over the next few months and sharing our plans as they progress, keep on spinning ,Terry

Train Transfers confirmed

great news for cyclists from Dublin or further south. Irish Rail has confirmed a single journey fare of just €10 for Friday 25 June should you wish to ride the one day option between Belfast and Dublin on Saturday 26 June. Northern Ireland Rail has also offered a single fare of £8.99 should you wish to take on the Dublin - Belfast ride on Sunday 27 June and take the train back home, In all cases Co-operation Ireland will organise free bike transfer between the to cities. Numbers starting to come in strong, looks like you won't be lonely on the road between Belfast and Dublin at the end of June, see you then, Terry O'Neill

Maracycle 2011

I was wondering if you could provide me a link to information about the June, 2011 maracycle (Dublin-Belfast) event.  I need some specifics.  I would like to participate.  I live in the US and have several questions regarding renting a bike, etc? Or would I have to ship my bike over.  I would also like the specific dates.ThanksKenny McMullan
